Dealing with tiredness and fatigue

Tiredness and fatigue

Fatigue is the feeling of being tired all the time, even after you have rested. Most of the time fatigue is your body’s way of saying ‘slow down’.

Taking steps towards reducing the stress you are under, getting more sleep and giving your body the fuel it needs will help boost your energy. You may find it helps to:

  • Eat small amounts often.
  • Take exercise breaks.
  • Lose weight, gain energy.
  • Get a good night’s sleep.
  • De-stress by trying to do something relaxing every day.
  • Cut out caffeine.
  • Cut down on alcohol before bedtime.
  • Drink water.

It is unusual for tiredness on its own to be a sign that there is anything medically wrong. However, if you are getting enough sleep and generally have a healthy, low-stress lifestyle and are still experiencing fatigue, talk to your doctor or Life Pharmacist.

It could be a symptom of an underlying medical problem such as an iron deficiency or thyroid problem. Blood and urine tests can rule out medical reasons such as anaemia, diabetes or an underactive thyroid gland.
